Born: 1973 |

System type: 4-Bit

Company: ATARI

First there was the atari system, the first complete game system ever built. This game included only two
knobs (as you can see) that were constructed for only one type of game:
PONG |
|
With this system, it offered automatic on-screen scoring after the score of fifteen was reached by either a player or the computer. The sound
on this thing was pathetic because you could only hear a series of audio beeps whenever the ball bounced back and forth.
There were also other types of games included on this;
People could switch back and forth between the games..
NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Born: 1983 |
|
System type: 8-Bit
| |
Company: NINTENDO
| |
- This is the Nintendo entertainment system. This system really set the tone for
video game systems of the future. It includes a control deck, 2 controllers, and even a Zapper light gun
for shooting games like Duck Hunt or the discus throw. This system had great sound that was made by using a keyboard.
- This system first origninated in Japan, as all the game systems usually do. It was first sold for $100, and then the
price decreased over the years. They had a problem first selling it in America because ATARI was still
big and the games were sold for 10% of the suggested retail price.
SUPER
NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Born: 1990 |
|
System type: 16-Bit
| |
Company: NINTENDO
| |
- In the late 1990's this system REALLY changed the whole video game
world with it's fantastic graphics and speed. Games were bigger, colors were brighter,
music was better (as if your listening to a radio..). By being a 16-bit system, unbelieveble graphics
could be displayed which made the system an instant success.
SEGA
GENESIS ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Born: 1986 |
|
System type: 16-Bit
| |
Company:
| |
- This is the company that started a major rivalry with Nintendo. First, Sega launched the regular sega genesis
system, which was 8-bit also in competition with Nintendo. This system included 2 standard controllers with a 3-button
system, a sega "MENICER" that was in contrast to the light gun for nintendo for shooting games.
- The system pictured above was one of sega's breakthrough systems also when Nintendo came out with the Super Nintendo.
This was called the SEGA SATURN , which was a 32-bit system. This means practically every thing was better than all the predecsors.
Graphics were more fluent, sound was even better, and the gameplay was excellent. This came out about 1989, and beat the compeition.
PANASONIC
3DO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Born: 1991 |
|
System type: 64-Bit
| |
Company: PANASONIC
| |
- This system wasn't very popular, but it did pave the way for video game systems of today.
Joining the gaming battle, Panasonic wanted to create a even superior machine with different type of game cartidge.
This system used CD's for games, which allowed constructors to make the game load faster, with better graphics
and stuff. This system wasn't that popular because of the games and the emerging compeition that came about.
SONY
PLAYSTATION ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Born: 1994 |
|
System type: 64-Bit
| |
Company: SONY
| |
- This system broke all the rules. This became one of the fastest growing and most popular game system around.
This system also uses CD's for the video games. They were the first to introduce also the
concept of allowing people to play musical CD's on the video game system itself. They became popular fast
with great games like RESIDENT EVIL, CRASH BANDICOOT, TEKKEN 1-3, etc. I could go on and on. They great
things about these games are they were almost arcade perfect, exactly like arcade games once they have originated
from them. PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT!!
- Other excellent features of the playstation is the memory card, which allows players
to save a game almost at any point. A person could save muitiple games on one card. There's also
The ANALOG CONTROLLER, which makes sudden movements while a person is playing the game. With this, people can
feel the action of a game. THIS IS EXCELLENT STUFF!!
NINTENDO
64 ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Born: 1995 |
|
System type: 64-Bit
| |
Company: NINTENDO
| |
- This system came out about the same time the playstation made it's debut. Nintendo stayed with the regular
video game concept. There were no CD's used for the games, just regular game discs. The differance is that
with CD's, you have to wait for things to load, but their games decreased loading time. The controllers are seven button
with the capable feature of shock control (when the controller moves while you play).
SEGA
DREAMCAST ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Born: 1999 |
|
System type: 64-Bit
| |
Company:
| |
- This is probably the best system out today, and it will definitely surpass the playstation. Don't get me wrong,
the playstation is great, but this is the most highly advanced system out today. Along with unbelieveable graphics and
great music, sega accomplished what sony did, and more to stay strong in the video game chase. This system is highly
intellectual, meaning that as they say in the commerical, "IT's always thinking". This system offers more challenges
and a highly sophisticated Ram and Rom system that will take gaming to the next level. This system also features a rumbling
controller, light-gun, a keyboard to attach to use it like a computer, and superior memory card.
This system is constantly on the rise and it is mind-blowing.
